Real Estate 2020: The Year for Moving

A new decade – what does that mean for you? Does it mean a new job? A new love? A baby on the way? With all the possibilities of what a new decade can bring, it’s exciting to plan ahead.

LendingTree’s recent survey does just that – they asked more than 1,500 Americans what they are planning for in this new decade, and buying a home or choosing to rent was the main theme.

Their survey found that 45% of homeowners plan to move at some point within this decade – of these homeowners, 16% said they’re moving to a new house in their current city, whereas 15% are moving to a new city in their state, and another 15% are relocating entirely.

Renters are making the steps they need to purchase a home: 11% of renters are planning to buy a home in 2020, and 42% of renters are planning to buy a home within the next two to five years.

The biggest reason homeowners want to buy new within the next 10 years is to live in a larger home (26%).
