Real estate agents and clients go together like peanut butter and jelly – but how do you make sure, as an agent, that you nurture the relationship towards success?
What do clients want in a real estate agent? What can agents do to help put their clients at ease during one of the most exciting (and stressful) purchases in their lives?

The best agents are the ones that not only ask a lot of questions, but ask the right questions. Show your curiosity by asking your client lots of questions to close any gaps in information. Asking the right questions will help you discover buying motives, more about your client’s likes and dislikes, and any potential concerns.
Some possible questions to ask:
- Why are you wanting to buy/sell at this time?
- Are you currently working with a lender or other real estate agents?
- Can you describe your ideal home and neighborhood?
- What deal breakers do you have for a home?
- What features must your home have?
- How long do you plan on living in your next home?
- What is your preferred method of communication?
Clients want to work with someone that understands their current situation – and some might not be the most happiest.
It’s important that you connect with your buyer/seller through genuine communication. Establish a rapport with your client; this will help your client feel more comfortable and not pushed to make any quick decisions. Clients don’t want to feel like they’re being “sold” something.
Clients will feed off of your energy! Make sure to remain positive, excited, and engaged.
Being able to give your client the information they need in order to feel secure and comfortable is of the upmost importance. Knowing the neighborhoods, the market, and what your client needs in terms of finances is something that needs to be at the top of your list!
As a real estate agent, you’re having to balance a lot of different stages in the home-buying process, as well as having to balance your client’s emotions and needs! To be a successful agent, it’s always good to be two steps ahead.
