3 Olympic sports that describe the role of a title professional

Maybe it’s because we’re in an industry that calls itself the protector of the American Dream. Maybe it’s because we have part of “America” in our name. Or maybe it’s because the AmeriTitle footprint includes some of the country’s best winter wonderlands.

Regardless of the reason, our team loves the Winter Olympics. So, before the world’s attention turns to Italy next month, we want to talk about the events a title professional would excel in the most. After all, every four years, these games reinforce what it takes to perform at the highest level of any activity.

We’re talking about precision, preparation, trust in your team and the ability to stay calm when the stakes are high – all of which our professionals bring with them to the settlement table each day. In fact, all of these qualities help title professionals keep your transactions moving forward every day!

So, what Olympic sport would your AmeriTitle title and escrow partners be best at? We’re glad you asked. Here are three, though we’re a little sad curling didn’t make the final cut.

Biathlon. This true test of wills may not be the best-known sport nationwide, but it probably describes the nature of a real estate transaction the best. Here’s how: biathlon combines cross-country skiing and shooting. It’s one of the most demanding sports in the world. It’s both a marathon and a sprint that also requires the ability to slow down and hit a target.

That balance mirrors what we do. Deadlines are tight, timelines move quickly and multiple parties are involved. There is no room for error when examining land records, reviewing documents, clearing title issues or preparing for closing, and we know being 100% on target is just part of the challenge.

Bobsled. Of course, “Cool Runnings” always comes to mind with Bobsled, but this had to be on the list either way. After all, it is the ultimate team challenge, and there’s immense pressure on the driver to bring it all home with astounding grace and control.

Your closing is like the course. It’s full of twists and turns – and through each one, we’re all gaining momentum. The other athletes (our fellow real estate pros) have done the work to push the sled and are now along for the ride. You don’t want just anyone piloting that barreling sled; you need someone with clear eyes and a calm mind who has both memorized what comes next and is nimble enough to keep everything on the track.

Title work operates the same way. From title searches to escrow coordination to final recording, each step builds on the one before it. When everyone communicates clearly and trusts the process, the transaction stays on track.

Figure skating. At first glance, figure skating looks effortless, but anyone who has tried it knows it’s not. At the Olympic level, athletes must plan every jump, spin and landing. Choreography is repeatedly rehearsed and executed with precision and power. One missed edge or mistimed movement can undo everything.

That level of discipline feels familiar to us. Closings only appear smooth when every detail has been addressed. Title professionals know that the real work happens long before anyone is watching. Settlements are “routine,” but we always try to make them feel magnificent thanks to practice, preparation and grace under pressure.

The best title professionals strive for excellence during every transaction. There are no podiums to climb in our line of work, but the mission to get you and your client’s home is an important one that requires focus, preparation and teamwork.

Your local AmeriTitle branch is proud to bring that Olympic-level commitment to every customer we serve. Our teams know that when it comes to your transaction, nothing less than a gold-medal performance will do!
